GOWEBCHECK
Cookie Policy
Effective date: 01/03/2026 | Version 1.0
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how GoWebCheck uses them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, available at gowebcheck.com/privacy.
GoWebCheck is operated by G Bancroft trading as Arete AI.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to improve how they perform, and to provide information to website operators.
Cookies can be “first-party” (set by the website you are visiting) or “third-party” (set by a different website, such as a payment or analytics provider). They can also be “session” cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent” cookies (remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them).
2. What the law requires
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), we must:
- Tell you what cookies we use and what they do
- Get your consent before setting any cookies that are not strictly necessary for the Service to function
- Not set non-essential cookies until you have given your consent
- Make it as easy to refuse cookies as it is to accept them
Strictly necessary cookies — those required for the website and Service to work — are exempt from the consent requirement under PECR Regulation 6(4). We can set these without asking your permission, but we still tell you about them below.
3. Cookies we use
The following tables list the cookies used on gowebcheck.com, grouped by category.
3.1. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the website and Service to function. They cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as logging in to your account or setting your cookie preferences.
Cookie name | Type | Duration | Purpose |
sb-*-auth-token | First-party | Session / persistent | Set by Supabase Auth. Keeps you logged into your GoWebCheck account. Without this cookie, you would need to log in on every page. |
sb-*-auth-token-code-verifier | First-party | Session | Set by Supabase Auth during the login process. Used for secure authentication (PKCE flow). Deleted after login completes. |
cookie_consent | First-party | 12 months | Remembers your cookie preferences so we do not ask you again on every visit. |
Note: The exact Supabase cookie names include your Supabase project reference (shown as * above). These are standard authentication cookies set by Supabase and are not customised by GoWebCheck.
3.2. Payment cookies (third-party, strictly necessary)
These cookies are set by Stripe when you make a payment or manage your subscription. They are necessary for the payment process to work securely.
Cookie name | Type | Duration | Purpose |
__stripe_mid | Third-party | 1 year | Set by Stripe. Used for fraud prevention and to process payments securely. |
__stripe_sid | Third-party | Session | Set by Stripe. Session identifier for the payment process. |
Stripe cookies are set only when you interact with a payment form or checkout page. They are classified as strictly necessary because they are essential for completing a transaction you have initiated. For more information about how Stripe uses cookies, visit stripe.com/cookie-settings.
3.3. Functional cookies
Consent required. These cookies remember choices you make to improve your experience.
Cookie name | Type | Duration | Purpose |
user_preferences | First-party | 12 months | Stores your dashboard display preferences (such as which pillar cards are expanded or collapsed). Not set until you give consent. |
Note: This table will be updated as the Service develops. If additional functional cookies are introduced, they will be added here and your consent will be requested before they are set.
3.4. Analytics cookies
Consent required. GoWebCheck does not currently use analytics cookies. If we introduce analytics in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent before any analytics cookies are set.
If analytics are introduced, we will prioritise privacy-respecting solutions that minimise data collection. We will never use analytics tools that track you across other websites.
3.5. Advertising and tracking cookies
GoWebCheck does not use any advertising or tracking cookies. We do not display advertisements, and we do not allow any third party to set cookies on our site for the purpose of tracking your activity or building an advertising profile.
4. How we obtain your consent
When you first visit gowebcheck.com, you will see a cookie consent banner. This banner will:
- Clearly explain that the site uses cookies
- Give you the option to accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or manage your preferences
- Not set any non-essential cookies until you make a choice
- Not use pre-ticked boxes, dark patterns, or misleading design to influence your choice
- Make it equally easy to reject cookies as to accept them
Strictly necessary cookies will be set regardless of your choice, because the Service cannot function without them. Your consent choice is recorded in the cookie_consent cookie so that we do not need to ask you again on subsequent visits.
5. Changing your cookie preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by:
- Clicking the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page on gowebcheck.com. This will re-display the consent banner so you can update your choices.
- Clearing cookies in your browser. This will remove all GoWebCheck cookies (and cookies from other sites). When you next visit gowebcheck.com, you will be asked for your consent again.
6. Browser cookie controls
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can usually find these options in your browser’s “Settings”, “Preferences”, or “Privacy” menu. Common options include:
- Viewing what cookies are currently stored on your device
- Deleting some or all cookies
- Blocking all cookies or only third-party cookies
- Setting your browser to notify you when a cookie is being set

Please note: If you block strictly necessary cookies, GoWebCheck may not function correctly. You may be unable to log in, make payments, or use the scanning Service.
7. Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal to websites. There is currently no universally agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals.
GoWebCheck respects DNT signals. If your browser sends a DNT signal and you have not otherwise given consent through our cookie banner, we will not set any non-essential cookies.
8. Similar technologies
In addition to cookies, websites can use other technologies to store data on your device. For completeness:
- Local storage: GoWebCheck may use browser local storage to save non-personal interface preferences (such as whether you have dismissed a notification). Local storage data does not leave your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
- Session storage: GoWebCheck may use session storage to hold temporary data during your visit (such as a scan in progress). Session storage is automatically deleted when you close your browser tab.
These technologies are subject to the same rules as cookies under PECR. We apply the same consent principles described in section 4 to any similar technology that stores non-essential data on your device.
9. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we introduce new features that require additional cookies. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, notify you through the cookie consent banner or by email.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. The most recent version will always be available at gowebcheck.com/cookies.
