GOWEBCHECK
Terms and Conditions
Effective date: [1st March 2026| Version 1.0
IMPORTANT: Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using GoWebCheck. By purchasing a scan or subscribing to the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. About these Terms
These Terms and Conditions (“these Terms”) govern your use of the GoWebCheck website health checking service (“the Service”) operated by G. Bancroft trading as Arete AI (“we”, “us”, “our”).
The Service is available at gowebcheck.com. GoWebCheck is a trading name of Arete AI.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify existing subscribers by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
2. What the Service does
GoWebCheck is an automated website scanning tool. When you submit a website URL, the Service scans it across seven areas of website health (“the Seven Pillars”):
- Accessibility (WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance)
- SEO fundamentals
- Performance and speed
- Mobile responsiveness
- Security
- Trust signals
- Cookie and GDPR compliance
The Service produces a report with scores, identified issues, and plain-English fix instructions for each pillar.
2.1. What the Service is not
The Service is an automated scanning tool provided for informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional legal advice, compliance consultancy, or a manual accessibility audit.
Industry research indicates that automated scanning tools typically identify approximately 30–40% of potential accessibility issues. The Service cannot detect all issues that a manual expert review would find.
Reports reflect the state of the scanned website at the time of scanning and do not guarantee ongoing compliance with any standard or regulation.
We do not guarantee that acting on the recommendations in a GoWebCheck report will make your website fully compliant with any law, regulation, or standard. Businesses with specific compliance obligations should seek independent professional advice.
3. Eligibility
The Service is available to individuals aged 18 or over and to businesses. By using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and that you have the authority to agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself or the business you represent.
4. Accounts
Subscription plans require you to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and keep it up to date. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information.
5. Service plans and pricing
The Service is available under the following plans. All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). All plans include the full 7-pillar report, plain-English fix instructions, and a downloadable PDF report.
5.1. Subscription plans
Plan | Monthly | Annual | Scan frequency |
Active | £6.99/month | £59/year | 1 automatic scan per month (12/year) |
Pro-Active | £9.99/month | £89/year | 1 automatic scan every 2 weeks (24/year) |
Agency | £29.99/month | £269/year | Up to 10 sites, 1 scan per month each (120/year) |
The Agency plan also includes white-label PDF reports with the subscriber’s own branding and priority support.
5.2. On-demand scans
Individual scans may be purchased without a subscription at £9.99 per scan. Existing subscribers on any plan may purchase additional on-demand scans at £4.99 per scan. On-demand scans include the same full report as subscription scans.
5.3. Price changes
We reserve the right to change our prices. Any price change will not affect existing subscription periods already paid for. For monthly subscribers, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice before a price increase takes effect. For annual subscribers, the new price will apply at the next renewal date.
6. Payment
All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details on our systems.
Subscription payments are taken in advance. Monthly subscriptions are billed on the same date each month. Annual subscriptions are billed once per year on the anniversary of your subscription start date.
On-demand scan payments are taken at the point of purchase, before the scan is run.
If a payment fails, we will attempt to collect it again. If payment continues to fail, your subscription may be suspended or cancelled. We will notify you by email before any cancellation for non-payment.
7. Cancellation, cooling-off, and refunds
7.1. Your right to cancel (cooling-off period)
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of purchase during which you may cancel for any reason.
On-demand scans: Because the scan is performed immediately after payment, by purchasing an on-demand scan you request that the Service begins immediately and you acknowledge that you will lose your right of cancellation once the scan has been completed and the report delivered. If the scan fails to complete for technical reasons, you will receive a full refund.
Subscriptions: If you cancel a subscription within the 14-day cooling-off period and no scans have been run on your account, you will receive a full refund. If one or more scans have been run, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the service already provided.
7.2. Cancelling your subscription
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will continue to have access to the Service and your scan history until the end of the period you have already paid for.
We do not offer partial refunds for unused time within a billing period, except as required by law or as described in section 7.1.
7.3. Annual subscriptions
Annual subscriptions are paid in full at the start of each 12-month period. If you cancel an annual subscription after the 14-day cooling-off period, you retain access until the end of the 12-month period. No pro-rata refund is given for the remaining months.
7.4. Our right to cancel
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, including but not limited to scanning websites you are not authorised to scan or using the Service in a way that disrupts the Service for others. In such cases, no refund will be given.
8. Acceptable use
When using the Service, you agree that you will:
- Only scan websites that you own or have explicit authorisation to scan
- Not use the Service to probe, test, or identify vulnerabilities in websites belonging to others without their consent
- Not attempt to overload, disrupt, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or replicate the scanning methodology or reports
- Not resell or redistribute reports generated by the Service, except as permitted under the Agency plan for white-label reports provided to your own clients
- Comply with all applicable laws when using the Service
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we reasonably believe you have breached these acceptable use terms.
9. Intellectual property
The GoWebCheck brand, software, scanning methodology, report formats, and all associated content are owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Reports generated for you by the Service are licensed to you for your own personal or business use. You may share your reports with your own web developer, designer, or other service providers for the purpose of implementing the recommended fixes. Agency plan subscribers may provide white-label reports to their own clients.
You may not reproduce, distribute, or publicly display the Service’s scanning methodology, report templates, or branding for any commercial purpose.
10. Accuracy and limitations
We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of our scanning tools and reports. However:
- Automated scanning has inherent limitations. The Service typically identifies approximately 30–40% of potential accessibility issues. Other pillar checks also have technical limitations.
- Some issues identified may be limitations of the scanned website’s platform (such as Wix, Squarespace, Webador, or WordPress) rather than choices made by the website owner.
- Standards and regulations change over time. While we review and update our scanning criteria regularly, there may be a delay between a standard being updated and our checks reflecting the change.
- Scan results can be affected by factors outside our control, including the target website’s server response time, geographic content delivery differences, and dynamic content loading.
- The Service scans the URL you provide. It does not scan every page of a website unless your subscription or scan specifically covers multiple pages.
11. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by English law.
Subject to the above, our total liability to you in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, shall not exceed the total amount you have paid us for the Service in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of profits, revenue, or business
- Loss of data
- Any regulatory fines, penalties, or enforcement action arising from your reliance on a GoWebCheck report
- Costs of procuring substitute services
- Any losses arising from actions taken or not taken based on the contents of a report
You acknowledge that the Service provides automated checks and recommendations, not legal or compliance advice, and that you are solely responsible for ensuring your website meets its legal and regulatory obligations.
12. Service availability
We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
Scheduled scans that cannot be completed due to temporary Service unavailability will be reattempted. If a scheduled scan fails repeatedly, we will notify you by email.
13. Data protection and privacy
We collect and process personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at gowebcheck.com/privacy. Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR.
By creating an account or purchasing a scan, you consent to our processing of your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy. Our lawful basis for processing your data is contract performance (we need your data to deliver the service you have purchased) and legitimate interests (for fraud prevention, service improvement, and communications about your account).
14. Third-party services
The Service uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Stripe — for payment processing. Your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe’s terms of service.
- Supabase — for data storage and authentication.
- Google PageSpeed Insights API — for website performance data.
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or operation of third-party services. If a third-party service is unavailable, some features of the Service may be temporarily affected.
15. Complaints and disputes
If you have a complaint about the Service, please contact us at admin@areteai.co.uk. We will aim to respond within 14 days.
If we are unable to resolve your complaint, you may be able to use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform or refer the matter to an alternative dispute resolution provider.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer, this does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable consumer protection legislation.
